FOOD
Food comprises a significant portion of our lives buying the food, preparing the food, and, of course, eating the food. Consider our ancestors who took even more time with their food, they even had to grow it! We might think we’re the lucky ones. Look at all the time we save through our mass production, our pre-packaged frozen entrees and our refining. Now we can eat energy bars and bagels on the run. We can throw a burrito in the microwave and get on to more important activities. We no longer have to plant, till, water and worry about bugs eating our crops. We leave the worrying to someone else!
But are we missing out?
What have we lost at the expense of convenience?
How has the shift in our eating affected our health, our families, our social patterns?
Imagine for a moment the experience of food enhancing your life; imagine it becoming more than a ‘thing to get done.’
Imagine every bite bringing you good health and good relationship…even good parties. (See the movie Babette’s Feast if you really want to see good food bringing people together.) Imagine your food bringing you vitality and wellness.
How do we begin to eat with this kind of awareness?
Does eating organic really make a difference?
How do I avoid pesticides and herbicides?
Do I need to supplement my diet?
What are the benefits of juicing? What about a raw food diet?
What is the connection between our food and the increase in diseases such as cancer, heart disease and diabetes?
What about the increased presence of allergies and attention deficit disorders in children? The following pages should answer some of these questions.
