Body pH is an important aspect of health. Here are 10 ways that you can promote an alkalizing pH in your body.

  1. Drink the juice of half a lemon first thing in the morning. Lemon juice helps get the kidneys working (kidneys are responsible for filtering your blood) and has an alkalizing effect on your body. You can go straight juice or add it to a cup of water— warm or cold. Note: if you are going pure juice, rinse three times with water as pure lemon juice is hard on the teeth.
  2. Almonds. Almonds. Almonds. Eat almonds. They are one of the only nuts that alkalize the body. Tip: Soak them for extra health benefit.
  3. Drink lots of pure water. Most of us are chronically dehydrated and would do well to drink more water. Water helps flush the toxins and waste which contribute to an acidic pH. One way to alkalize tap water is to add a dash of baking soda to your water. A squeeze of lemon also helps. Even better, invest in a high quality filtration system.
  4. Have a green drink once a day. Green drinks are usually made from a mix of barley, wheatgrass, spirullina, chlorella, and more. They are full of chlorophyll, nutrients and enzymes that are great for the body. They will contribute to detoxification and promote alkalinity.
  5. Eat lots and lots…and lots of vegetables. Vegetables are naturally alkalizing. It’s that simple. (Just in case you needed another reason to add more veggies to your diet!)
  6. Limit or even eliminate processed foods. Processed foods contain high amounts of sugar, chemicals and fillers—all highly acidic and not to mention, unnatural.
  7. Cut down on sugar. Sugar creates acidity in the body and an environment in which flu and cold producing bugs thrive. Sugar is their gold! Sugar also impairs your immune system making you a ’sitting duck’ for the next cold going around. So start reading labels and get to know the sugar you’re consuming. Get a little less friendly.
  8. Maintain a positive frame of mind and orientation. The effects of positivity cannot be underestimated. You are truly what you think. The writer/thinker James Allen, in his book As A Man Thinketh suggests that we manifest all of our emotional thoughts—be they our greatest desire or our greatest fears.
  9. Breathe. Deep breathing is a great way of clearing the body of excess acidity.
  10. Relax. Try meditation or simply slowing down for a period of time each day. Avoid a constant state of ‘busyness.’ The simple act of enjoying life and enjoying the moment contributes to a state of mind that promotes health.
